With the USC loss in Seattle, it looks to me like Penn State could be creeping towards a title shot.
Their schedule is pretty easy. They have just two ranked teams on their schedule, and the Nittany Lions’ non-conference schedule is a joke.
Texas and Florida still control their own destinies, of course, but both compete in tougher conferences. The SEC and Big-12 seem to do a good job of beating each other up and have that conference championship game.
Florida looked beatable versus Tennessee last weekend. The Gators still have LSU in Baton Rouge, Georgia, FSU and probably Alabama in the conference game. Playing in Baton Rouge on a Saturday is no pleasant task – just being in Baton Rouge isn’t all that pleasant.
With three of the top five in the rankings in the SEC, it stands to reason that by December there will only be one team standing. That team could easily have one loss.
Texas still has to get by Oklahoma and Oklahoma State then perhaps someone in the title game.
Meanwhile, if Penn State runs the table they are in a perfect position to go to a BCS title game. Or at least they will have a good reason to complain if they don’t get invitied.
Jo Pa turns 117 this year and he is about to record his 1000th victory. It looks like this could be his year.
Prediction: Look for Penn State to roll over Iowa.
